Food Porn: Sway

The shooting process for Food Porn Vol 3 is almost completed, just need to shoot a few more men and it’ll be a wrap. I have enough great photos to show but not enough men. The show will happen in August still.

I woke up super early and went grocery shopping at Sprouts, got coffee from a coffee shop near that (that is not Starbucks), and went to another grocery store to buy a tub of Ice Cream.

ACD Gallery To Under Belly

Have ya'll ever been to ACD Gallery? If not its worth the visit. A small boutique shop in North Park that carries stuff you won't find in other stores in SD. Every Thursday the shops stays open till 8 PM (Normal hours is 12-6 PM), and would feature a local DJ to play some tunes for a couple of hours. Beatnick blessed us with some music last night, it happened to be Keith's (ACD Gallery owner) wife birthday so it was a fucking party!!! I had a great time, Thank you Keith for having us over!

Lets Taco Bout Lowriders

Back to back with the La Vuelta Car Cruise. Normally it would be bi-weekly but since it's almost the end of summer or maybe its already over (peace out summer I never really liked you) they had their last Wednesday's meet last night. But for the big finale they will have their special event on a Saturday with road blocks.

I was finally reunited with a good friend of mine, Jason Huggins. If you're new to this blog then you might not know him. Especially since I used his real name haha. Jason is one of the owners of 5&A Dime, Hickies & Dryhumps, Butts Ta Nuts. We haven't been able to hang out in a very long time, but we recently got to catch up and got the momentum going. Relationships/friendships are like flowers, you gotta water it. I felt like I haven't been watering our friendship so it's important to me to make time for my boy Jason. I always thought he was just too busy cuz he's never at the shop, but he was always home (upstairs). It was a very special night to have Jason out with us. The Lowrider meet was poppin'. He had Salud tacos for the first time and loved it. He got to experience the vibe, the music, the culture, we all love so much together. There is something about lowrider meets that I love so much. It's not just the cars. It's so fucking authentic, and just how I remember it from my childhood, it's still the same! Not much as change but the faces. I love the oldies music pouring out of every speakers available on the block. From the Dj's to the lowriders passing by. Lowrider culture is timeless, I'm just happy to be able to witness this and capture it with my camera. I took most of my pictures with my film camera, working on a new gallery soon so once I get those done, I'll add them to my site.

I tried to get to Barrio Logan as early as possible so I can chill at Por Vida before the cruise started, but traffic was bad so I got there around 5 PM. Still had enough time to enjoy my Spicy Sandia Lemonada, introduced that to Jay as well. Chopped it up while we waited for Dook to show up for dinner and as soon as he arrived, we headed straight to Salud.

Nine Front, Nine Back (MCASD)

If you're wondering what Nine Front, Nine Back means, I'm referring to the serial numbers on a dollar bill. Lao people believe when you find a one dollar bill with the serial number starting with a nine and ending with a nine it is considered good luck. I found one in my pocket after buying her a vegetarian pizza for the super bowl and I decided to see how lucky can I be with this lucky dollar. I've searching for this dollar since I was a kid, I was told when you find one you hold on to it till you get lucky, then you spend it. I found the lucky dollar many times but never paid attention if I got lucky or not. I don't believe in luck but I've been playing along since I was knee high. So! Today, I put that lucky dollar to the test. I got off work at 3 PM in La Jolla (yes I work), drove home to switch into my "race car" and drove down to Chula Vista. Traffic was okay, but it still took 40 mins to get there. After picking up Lupita we rushed to Little Italy to make it to Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) before it closed. We got there around 4:40 PM now we must find street parking. We found a front roll parking but it was questionable, wasn't sure if we can park there, so we moved on. After circling one block we found one on the corner, then found out that questionable spot was good but oh well. We walked in MCASD and they told us "just come in, we close in 15 minutes." What? We didn't have to pay? Yo that dollar really worked haha. I donated that lucky dollar and a few more dollars to MCASD before we left.

We were blown away by this exhibition, it was just beautiful.

After a successful visit of MCASD I went to Nelson Photo to drop off some film. Grabbed dinner at Soda & Swine since we were in the neighborhood. I wanted to get some tea from Moniker but we were too late, they were closed.

The real reason why we came to Parc & Rec. I wanted to redeem myself from such a big loss last time. I was surprised to even win two game last night, ended up tying with her 5-5. Played one more game, tie breaker, winner takes all. Well, she took it all. Fucking shit!!!!!!! I lost again!

I HEART This Tea

This Sunday was not exactly a lazy Sunday. It was definitely mellow though, but it was everything I wanted out of a day. I found a roll of film lying on my bedroom floor, must be from my Japan trip and dropped it somehow. I dropped it off at Nelson photo today to see what's in it. Wack photos! That's what was in it ! Haha. Anyways, I picked up Lupita to join me on my routine. Instead of looking at the photos at Moniker I went through the photos on my lap top at Soda & Swine Point Loma since we were hungry. It was sunny in San Diego, warm, nice and quiet inside Soda & Swine, friends behind the bar made us a couple of tasty Apple Slushy with Alcohol. That shit was good! It's not on the menu but it is on their Specials menu, just ask them to make you one if you ever visit. I ordered The Hog Sub and Lupita had The Vegan Sub, they are both very good, I tasted the Vegan one. I meant to ordered the Sub with Marinara sauce but some how I fucked that up and ended up with BBQ sauce, nonetheless it was good though. Shout out to Soda & Swine for taking care of us, ya'll made Lupita's first time at S&S memorable.

Front row parking as always.

Abnormal Dinner Series

The Cork & Craft and Cowboy Star Chefs teamed up once again for another dinner series paired with Karl Strauss. I missed out on last night's dinner but a good friend of mine (Mikey) was able to take some photos and shared his thought. Mikey was able to describe the dinner to me in one word, "delicious." That's all the word we need about food right? Haha.

This is definitely something I would recommend people to try if you love food as much as I do or simply go for the experience. This could also be a way to impress your date if that's what you want to do. But I would recommend you to try this to impress your stomach and share the moment with anyone you see fit to dine with. Each dishes were made by Chef Chris (Cowboy Star) and some dishes were made by Chef Esteban (Cork & Craft). You also have to remember these dishes are not available on the Cork & Craft/Cowboy Star menu  and you might not even get to taste the same dish twice at another dinner series, so each dish is one of a kind. Follow the two chefs on Instagram to find out when the next dinner series would take place.
