Food Porn Vol 3 Shoot With Dannie

I had the pleasure to shoot Dannie today for Food Porn Vol 3. Dannie is from St. Louis, living in SD for I don't remember how long haha. But she has a great look and great energy. Her room mates were home and they made the shoot super fun. When I got the cameras loaded they played some music and while I was reloading the camera they'd get up to dance. I was feeling the vibe and I normally take the best photos when the feelings are high as the moment. Follow my Instagram to see the BTS videos in the story, added to FoodPorn3 highlights as well so you won't miss it.

Food was from Kindred, their delicious Bourbon Butterscotch Bananas Pancakes. Best pancakes I ever had! Vegan or not, it's the fucking best!

Garlic Shack

I've been ignoring this joint for way too long. Not sure how long they been opened but they are fairly new to the neighborhood. Located on the corner of 25th and Market St. Yes in the hood. Not too far from the hood itself if not in it, and downtown is just three minutes away. Don't worry, it's safe to eat there. I didn't spend too much time there to meet the chefs or their staffs, which I should've. But the owners may be the chefs in the kitchen. Garlic Shack is a Asian Fusion food joint, burgers, fries, and Sandwiches. Dook found out about Garlic Shack yesterday and immediately wanted to eat there. What caught his attention? it was the Spicy Fries, sprinkled with peppers and smothered in their spicy Ketchup. That was fucking delicious! Great atmosphere, street parking and also a parking lot next door on 25th. I'm definitely coming back to try out other items on the menu and to get more of their spicy fries, but this time, large please.

I ordered their Crab Cake burger because if their Crab Cake is good, then their other stuff is really good! Hahaha I don't know, I just know a lot places fuck up on Grab Cake so I went to for the trickiest one. And to my surprised, I love it! So far there's only two locations I love to get Crab Cake from, this place and Ironside. I ordered the Wasabi fries too but totally forgot to take a photo cuz that came out last and I just killed it. By the way, the Wasabi flavor was kinda raw/strong. Can be overwhelming, but dip it in Ranch and its golden B. Fuck with it!

Lets Taco Bout Lowriders

Back to back with the La Vuelta Car Cruise. Normally it would be bi-weekly but since it's almost the end of summer or maybe its already over (peace out summer I never really liked you) they had their last Wednesday's meet last night. But for the big finale they will have their special event on a Saturday with road blocks.

I was finally reunited with a good friend of mine, Jason Huggins. If you're new to this blog then you might not know him. Especially since I used his real name haha. Jason is one of the owners of 5&A Dime, Hickies & Dryhumps, Butts Ta Nuts. We haven't been able to hang out in a very long time, but we recently got to catch up and got the momentum going. Relationships/friendships are like flowers, you gotta water it. I felt like I haven't been watering our friendship so it's important to me to make time for my boy Jason. I always thought he was just too busy cuz he's never at the shop, but he was always home (upstairs). It was a very special night to have Jason out with us. The Lowrider meet was poppin'. He had Salud tacos for the first time and loved it. He got to experience the vibe, the music, the culture, we all love so much together. There is something about lowrider meets that I love so much. It's not just the cars. It's so fucking authentic, and just how I remember it from my childhood, it's still the same! Not much as change but the faces. I love the oldies music pouring out of every speakers available on the block. From the Dj's to the lowriders passing by. Lowrider culture is timeless, I'm just happy to be able to witness this and capture it with my camera. I took most of my pictures with my film camera, working on a new gallery soon so once I get those done, I'll add them to my site.

I tried to get to Barrio Logan as early as possible so I can chill at Por Vida before the cruise started, but traffic was bad so I got there around 5 PM. Still had enough time to enjoy my Spicy Sandia Lemonada, introduced that to Jay as well. Chopped it up while we waited for Dook to show up for dinner and as soon as he arrived, we headed straight to Salud.

Hanuit for Strictly Waffles "Waffle Lover" Pullover

We wanted to do something a little different than our usual text tees. With the colder months ahead, we set our sights on a hoodie and teamed up with San Diego photographer Nitty Beat for a different take on classic skate imagery. While combing through vintage skateboarding ads, I came across this great full page Dogtown Wheels ad from the 70's that spurred the idea for this shoot. Nitty took the reigns and reshot the image with model Kristina Whitmire, and we think it turned out great. These will be printed with direct to garment, full color graphics on 100% cotton American Apparel California Fleece Pullovers. And as always, everything is 100% Made in the USA. Preorder yours now at Strictlywaffles.com/shop.

Rossi Rock - 19 & 55 (Video)

Rossi and his camp have been speaking of the new album Agassi for a minute now, teasing the shit out of the fans like when that shit gonna drop!!? With Agassi just around the corner (August 9th) Rossi released the first visual to 19&55 with cameos by a few San Diego artists. While we waited for Rossi to drop some new music Rossi did a show in San Francisco, The Observatory and recently at the Dirty Fucking Vans event. Was even featured on Tanboys album getting love from the east coast.

Being A Couple Of Tourists In Our Own City

I spent most of my weekend watching Season 2 of Dare Devil series on Netflix and just finished all 12 episodes this Sunday morning. Since it's officially the first day of Spring I decided I need to go out and explore the city. There's a lot of tourist in San Diego around this time so, Flow and I decided to go out and be tourist ourselves.

First we had to get lunch from Sushi Deli 3, they weren't open till noon so we hung out on the ledge in front of Mitsuwa eating the snacks we just bought to kill some time. Watched a few planes fly over our head from the airport near by it was time to head back to Sushi Deli for lunch.

Let me be honest, Sushi Deli doesn't have the best sushi in town but it's really fun and really affordable. They do some some unique sushi rolls that is worth your time and money though.

Okay, this is kinda offensive. This is called Monkey Brains. What? You think asian people eat Monkey brains and shit? Well okay some do but what did I do about this? I ordered it! Hahaha, I don't give a fuck how offensive it can be, it just better taste good! And it was okay, lol.

After hopping into this space ship we headed to Balboa Park! Can't get more touristy than this! People must be on Spring break or something, Balboa Park was so packed! Maybe it's like that every weekend? I haven't been to B.P in a long time and I admit, it was really nice to be back.

You'll find a lot of great acts on the boardwalk. Magicians, artists, balloons, the girl from Frozen, and this guy, free hula hoop session. Homeboy had three hula hoops on him at the same damn time.

What's Jappaning Pt 8 (Final Post)

First and foremost I'd like to give a special shout out to Jay Yuch for helping us out with the loft in Japan. You made the trip so much sweeter my dude. Shout out to Megan for coming out to chill for a couple of days, good luck on your endeavor and I'm sure you'll be a great english teacher (tell your mom I said that lol). I'll see you again soon. My brother and Robert for being the tech guys and navigating us through Japan, got lost a few times but that was our plan in the first place. Jenny Lam for meeting us at Hooters Shibuya, great seeing you out there. Marteena, you made my Japan trip more memorable, more sweeter. I was already passionate about Japan but now you've given me memories that I'm even more passionate about. Japanese food will never be the same in the states, living a normal life in the states will never be the same without you since I spent 10 days with you in Japan. Remember how I said music records memories for me? Because of the boy band truck that be driving around "iKon - My Type" will forever be the soundtrack to my Japan trip. See you around my lady, maybe Bora Bora will be in our future =).

OH! And a special shout out to the random Chinese dudes who gave us a ride off the Aqualine since we were the only one who took the taxi out to the middle of nowhere with no ride back. Great driving you fucking assholes, If you weren't three cars deep I'd put you in the hospital just for putting our lives in danger, but since we made it out alive, I appreciate the ride bitches.

Now that I got all that off my chest, we spent 10 days in Japan. Most of the time we took the train, walked about 10 miles a day (25k steps a day), shopped a lot, ate a lot, but thankfully we didn't gain any weight since we walked so much. We spent our second to last day chilling at the loft playing my favorite card game, Killer. Then we had our last dinner together at Broooklyn Diner. I'm telling you, the Japenese on our block are obsessed with Brooklyn. But damn they did a good job on the food though.

Randomly picked this spot since we had ramen, we had curry, and other shit. We wanted something different.

It's a Jamaican themed restaurant, they had Jamaican hot sauce which was fucking delicious and jerk chicken and jerk beef. We ordered the typical onion rings and fries, both were perfectly cooked.

Saturday morning we spent our day packing, the only agenda we had was Tokyo Auto Salon and then the Auto Fashion x The Chronincles night week on the Aqualine. I took Marteena back to the Brooklyn Ribbon Fries for our last lunch together in Japan. She planned on staying in all day to rest while we go out our way to the Auto Salon, that's about an hour away from where we were. It was colder than I remember, I had to buy a scarf that night to keep my face warm. It was a good and bad experience all at the same time considering the Auto Salon was mad cool and putting ourselves in strangers car just to get off the island by testing grim reaper himself with his suicidal way of driving. He was driving a fucking Prius for fuck sakes, not even a tuned race car! 180kmp, what does that translate too in mph? 111mph through the tunnel with sharp turns and inches from the wall and semi trucks. N***** you ain't in Initial D! Anyways, it was good seeing my friends Hiro and Takeshi in their hometown, and the Chronicles team, DPK crew, and Auto Fashion USA fams. People say it's made peaceful in Japan, it sure is. Most of the time the strangers will not look you in the eyes, they are either to shy or scared. While conducting business with them is another story, they are friendliest people you'll ever meet. They are so polite in Japan, and bikes are hardly locked up, the trust system in Japan is fucking crazy. I love their customer service, their head nods and bow. 7-11 USA will never be the same!! We visit 7-11 in Japan twice a day! I miss their food already.

My last lunch with Marteena in Japan, Brooklyn Ribbon fries. I was missing In-n-Out burgers and this was the closest to it, real talk, shit tasted like In-N-Out burger!

Now to the photos from Tokyo Auto Salon, I spent most of my focus on the exotics and race cars. The photographers out there are just the same as the US, none of them are interested in the cars and only on the girls. They be acting hella thirsty out there!! I get all excited when I see a group of photographers crowding around to take photos thinking its a new car or a celebrity but nope, just a freaking model. Thirsty ass.

What's Jappaning Pt 5 (Snow Day)

We got up super early Tuesday morning to take the train out to Nagano for the snow. It was a long and treacherous ride. Just a tip for you first time travelers, in order to get on the bullet train you'll have to purchase the tickets at the machine and then purchase another ticket at the booth by the gate. We couldn't figure this out for about an hour and a half. It still sound complicated reading this post but it'll make sense once you get there. Then you'll have to get on a bus to ride to Hakuba which was an hour ride. The train was about 3 hour ride by the way. But this is if you're taking public transportation.

As soon as we got to Hakuba Dook and Robert went snow boarding and Marteena and I walked around Echo Land to check out some restaurants and souvenir shops. It was pretty cold as you can imagine but luckily for me I'm dressed in the Nike Hyper Warm tights underneath my clothes. The new Nike F.C.R.B jacket I bought kept me feeling like I'm in a fucking sauna. We took a lot of photos with my GoPro, iPhone, and my Canon. Eventually Dook and Robert made it back and we went out for a walk to search for more food. It was about a mile walk to the nearest Yakitori stand (that was fucking delicious). Did some more shopping, Marteena bought mostly snacks to take home. We walked a little more and found two food trucks, one was selling pizza, hot dogs, and churros and the other one was selling Rice Burgers! Yes! Rice Burgers! Wagyu beef in between buns made out of rice. Super innovative and tasty. I would recommend you to search for this yellow truck and tell him California says hi.

Film Is Not Dead Photo Exhibition

A group photo exhibition put together by the Bloody Gums Collective. A large variety of photographers from around the world in one gallery in Pomona, CA. There was a lot going on near Space Gallery, a concert next door, some art walk, farmer's market, the whole block was having a party. This wasn't my first time attending the photo exhibition but it is my first time being in the show. Before I get to the photo recap I would like to thank Andrew B. for having me in the show, and congrats to the whole Bloody Gums Collection crew for putting on a very dope show. The turn out was great, a full house!

I'll try my best to navigate you through the gallery from the front door to the back. I apologize for not having the details or the artist's name attached to their work.

BTS: 5&A Dime Ft. Brother Nature/Julie Mai part 2 (Vlog)

That  one Sunday I joined 5&A Dime and Brother Nature to capture a behind the scenes of their music video shoot. Shot by Billy and Nick of Sk8Mafia and also featuring the beautiful Julie Mai. Targa Trophy even made it out to provide the Bentley for the music video. That was a great a Sunday and I'm I was there to capture it, I can relive it by pressing play.

To take you back to see the full music video, watch the video below.
